The Magnificent Seven have delivered extraordinary returns of more than 4,500% over the past decade, transforming the investment landscape. But the question investors should be asking isn’t what they’ve achieved – it’s who will still be leading the AI revolution five years from now?

AI is evolving at breakneck speed. The winners won’t simply be today’s biggest names—they’ll be the companies that can adapt fastest and, crucially, turn AI innovation into sustainable profits.

One of the biggest mistakes investors can make is treating the Magnificent Seven as though they are all on the same path. History tells us that today’s market leaders don’t automatically become tomorrow’s winners. Will Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Tesla all maintain their dominance? Or will new challengers emerge to disrupt the status quo?

Just as importantly, will the next generation of market leaders even come from the technology sector? While AI is undoubtedly reshaping the global economy, some of the greatest long-term investment success stories have come from businesses outside big tech. Warren Buffett built his fortune by identifying exceptional companies across a wide range of industries, demonstrating that opportunities exist far beyond the latest technology trends.

deVere CEO Nigel Green believes investors should prepare for a significant shift.

“The market has assumed all seven will benefit equally from AI. I don’t believe that’s the correct assumption. The Magnificent Seven will become the Magnificent Three. Within five years, markets will conclude that only three of today’s mega-cap technology companies truly capture the economic upside of the AI revolution. The others will remain extraordinary, highly profitable businesses, but investors will increasingly view them as consumers of AI infrastructure rather than its primary beneficiaries.”

Nigel believes the winners will be those controlling the foundations of AI rather than simply using it.

Nvidia continues to strengthen its position by building an entire AI ecosystem around its chips. Alphabet has the scale and technology to drive down the cost of AI infrastructure and accelerate adoption. Meta’s unrivalled global platforms provide enormous opportunities to monetise AI across billions of users. Meanwhile, companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Tesla remain exceptional businesses, but each faces different challenges as AI investment costs rise and competition intensifies.

The AI revolution is still in its early stages. While demand for AI chips and computing power remains exceptionally strong today, tomorrow’s biggest winners may be the businesses that successfully harness AI to improve productivity, reduce costs and create entirely new revenue streams.

The lesson for investors is clear: don’t mistake yesterday’s winners for tomorrow’s certainties. No matter which companies remain in the Magnificent Seven, a long-term diversified portfolio is key to maintaining stability and steady profits over time.

Why are central banks buying so much gold?

A World Gold Council survey of 69 central banks revealed that over 90% cited gold’s performance during crises as the main reason for holding the precious metal. And 84% mentioned gold’s role as a long-term store of value and a hedge against inflation, especially for emerging markets.

Gold is known as a haven during geopolitical and economic crises, and there have been too many to count over the last few years. It remains a hedge against inflation and a solid diversification asset for investors to mitigate risk.
