Oil prices are on the rise, and global markets are anxious as it could not only affect the energy industry and prices for consumers, but also most other industries reliant on the transportation of goods.

Geopolitical events are not new to financial markets. Over the decades, markets have navigated wars, terrorist attacks, energy crises, and global conflicts. In each case, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and events before it, there has been short-term volatility. And in each case, well-diversified, long-term portfolios have recovered and continued to grow. Client valuations today remain higher than they were before many of these past events.

Short-term fluctuations are a normal and expected part of investing. They are not the same as permanent loss.

Remember your long-term financial goals and stay committed.

AI has dramatically accelerated the kill chain in warfare, reducing the time from initial target identification to final destruction. Anthropic’s AI tools, including Claude, have been used by the Pentagon to coordinate strikes. The AI is being used to identify targets and gain legal approval to execute strikes on its own. This speeds up the decision-making process in war, which could save countless lives.

Now companies like OpenAI, xAI’s Grok and Palantir have filled the gap of recently booted Anthropic. AI is used to data mine AI-enabled insights to help powers that be make decisions. Vast amounts of data can be analysed and decisions made quickly. Data analysis includes telephone records, aerial imagery, human and internet intelligence.

The US military’s decision-making framework, OODA (known as observe, orient, decide and act), can now, thanks to AI, be super-efficient and save time. The old equivalent would have taken 6 months in WWII.

AI in autonomous drones are already playing a significant role in observation and data analysis, and even ‘act’ decisions without human intervention if signal jams occur. This is similar to Iran’s Autonomous Shahed drones.

It’s not just the Iran conflict. Israel reportedly used AI to identify Hamas targets, and autonomous drones are a major player in the Ukraine-Russia war.

This is an example of AI being used in an industry (defence and metals industry) other than big tech, and these industries are using AI to increase profits through AI innovation and efficiency.
