Investors are championing Japan following Sanae Takaichi’s landslide election win in the country’s snap general election. This result has already reshaped global market sentiment and elevated Tokyo to the forefront of risk appetite across equity, currency, and debt markets.
This comes as Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party won a two-thirds majority in the lower house, allowing her to advance her economic agenda with clear policy direction. Markets reacted favourably, pushing the Nikkei 225 and Topix index to all-time highs.
“With such a dominant mandate secured in an open-election environment, Japan stands as one of the few major advanced markets with a clear strategic direction. That has prompted a redistribution of risk capital into Japanese equities and related assets. Now that policy risk is more knowable, investors are allocating with conviction,” says deVere CEO, Nigel Green.
There has been a renewed interest among investors tied to future growth, such as in semiconductors, digital tech and advanced manufacturing.
The vote has cemented Japan’s position as a strategic addition to global investment portfolios.
Who would have thought that a boy band could skyrocket hotel and tourism bookings worldwide? After announcing their comeback tour, the world’s biggest boy band, BTS, sold out concerts in 20 minutes. This fuelled a 6700% jump in hotel searches in host cities.
Host cities of the world tour expect the tourism and hotel industry to boom during the concert dates. This is expected to boost revenue by hundreds of millions.
Concert tourism is expected to be one of the travel industry’s more lucrative drivers this year, with BTS, Bruno Mars, Harry Styles and K-Pop group EXO all announcing world tours.
It looks like the consumer discretionary sector could potentially have a good year ahead.
