No FED Cut Makes Gold Soar & Apple’s iPhone Success

With the dollar weakening over the last few months, gold prices are soaring as investors seek stable, secure investments not linked to currency, geopolitics or volatility.

The FED’s decision not to cut rates yesterday created an instant global reaction as markets were hoping for a hint of relief. This puts into question the waning power of the dollar. The higher rates and waning dollar momentum have investors fleeing back to the “old faithful” of gold.

A softer dollar makes gold cheaper for international buyers, but more importantly, it revives gold’s reputation as the place people run to when the financial weather looks stormy. Inflation worries, heavy government borrowing, and global uncertainty are all nudging investors toward something that doesn’t rely on promises.

Geopolitics, empty promises and government power plays have left investors with market fatigue. Gold is the stabilising factor in an uncertain market.

Now more than ever, investors need to keep portfolios diversified to mitigate against market volatility, and adding gold is part of that diversification.

Apple’s iPhone is back on top with record sales reported for the Q4 of last year. Sales came in at $85.3 billion, ahead of the $78.3 billion predicted by analysts. That’s almost $15 billion more than the same quarter the year before. Apple stock jumped almost 1% after the news.

This is largely due to the 38% sales improvement in China, bringing in $25.5 billion. This is a major turnaround after the Asian mega giant showed a decline in sales in the first half of 2025.

Earlier this month, Apple announced it would use Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology to power its AI efforts, which include a new personalised Siri to be launched later this year.

Apple has been lagging behind competitor Samsung’s AI offering, which has been using Gemini. This new merger, along with the acquisition of start-up Q.AI., whose tech can read facial skin micro movements and help Apple support non-verbal discussions, is sure to launch Apple as the leader in smartphones.
