Despite surging oil prices and looming inflation, stock markets are booming – global equity indexes reached all-time highs, and AI is driving markets as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq reach fresh highs. This includes chipmakers and AI infrastructure companies such as AMD and Nvidia.
More than 80% of S&P 500 companies reporting this season have exceeded analysts’ expectations.
It is almost as if the markets have ignored the crisis in the Middle East. Why? Traders are saying, “Don’t ask why; just enjoy the ride”. Can this upward cycle continue?
Companies are making profits and becoming more and more valuable, but with inflation on the rise, we should be seeing the aftereffects later this year. This means that, potentially, interest rates could increase, resulting in less spending power for consumers and companies making less profit.
deVere CEO, Nigel Green, asks the right questions.
“So, what should you do right now? Should you be like the traders and just enjoy the ride? Well, I would say you need 100% to be diversified. You should be a smart, proactive investor. Look for things that are likely to do well, regardless. In other words, consumables, things that people require regardless.”
He explains that it doesn’t mean these stock prices won’t go down. If everything goes down, these will too, but not as much.
Despite what happens in the markets, it would be sensible to diversify, for example, gold as a hedge, fixed interest for a steady income and mixed stocks in stable, reputable companies.
“Go for diversification, that’s my personal opinion, and always talk to a financial adviser…But I am more diversified now than I have ever been in the past.”

Silver is often Gold’s overlooked cousin. While it has a lower price tag than gold, it has had steady gains over the last few years and is more accessible for everyday investors.
The price of silver has more than doubled in 2025 and could reach $100 per ounce. This is largely due to its industrial value in solar panels, cars and electronics and volatile markets. During volatile markets and geopolitical uncertainties, investors often turn to precious metals like silver and gold for security.
Analysts predict that silver could reach $100 per ounce in the next 5 years. With its use in practically every computer, mobile phone, solar panel, EVs and appliances Silver remains an important part of modern technology. As the demand for these products increases, the price of silver could potentially skyrocket.
