Government borrowing costs are climbing, and the UK’s public finances are under pressure. With speculation growing about a possible increase in capital gains tax, could it be time to look beyond Britain?

Persistent inflation and higher interest rates are making government borrowing harder to sustain, a concern deVere CEO Nigel Green highlighted.

“There’s more and more debt in the world. You want to reduce the amount of debt that you personally have.” – Nigel Green, deVere CEO.

But personal borrowing is only part of the picture. If your property, savings and investments are concentrated in Britain, your finances may be heavily exposed to one economy and one currency.

International markets, bonds and commodities can help spread that exposure, although overseas investing brings its own market and currency risks.

Review your portfolio with your financial adviser to ensure that your investments reflect your circumstances and long-term goals.

Bitcoin’s bulls are back in charge, according to Nigel Green, as institutional investors put fresh money into digital assets.

In deVere’s 21 September update, Bitcoin pushed past $85,000, while US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted about $3.8 billion over three consecutive weeks.

“The market’s momentum has flipped, and this time there’s serious institutional money behind it.” – Nigel Green, deVere CEO.

Green believes concerns about rising government debt and currency purchasing power are strengthening Bitcoin’s appeal. Its fixed supply of 21 million coins contrasts with currencies whose supply can expand.

Interest is also spreading to Ether and Solana products, suggesting renewed appetite across the digital asset market.

However, stronger demand does not eliminate the risks. Bitcoin remains highly volatile, and sharp pullbacks can follow strong rallies. Any allocation should suit your risk tolerance and broader investment strategy.
